The Difference Between Me And You (Subtracting Myself)

It’s at the moment at the top of the ferris wheel
That we wait,
Holding our breaths as if the slightest movement
Could send us crashing to the ground below.
Where we, by a chance that only the gods could bestow,
Saw the fireworks go off only to end as soon as they began.

Where we both then turn to look at each other
Merely to wonder,
What have we gotten ourselves into?
In the exact second that we both laughed it off as no big deal,
The city glowed just a little brighter-
Like the illusions that I could never bear to face in the daytime were
No longer with me.
