Growing Pains

We spend a quarter of our lives trying to grow up,
Then the rest of it
Trying to go backwards.

Like me trying to find love
Then spending the rest of days
Laying awake at three A.M.
Trying to fall out of it.

Looking for ghosts in the mirrors to hold me back
As I find myself drawn back to the pictures of you and me,
I can’t help but keep them close to my heart
As I blow the dust off of our smiles.

Time passes without giving me a moment to collect my memories
And no matter how fast I run,
I can’t keep up with my heart
As it races
Whenever I see you.
Bleeding wishes like losing lovers,
I try to reclaim the friends I’ve lost
And the words that the wind stole from me.

Growing Pains
