Isn’t the bitterness I once tasted
With the dark chocolates I bought
For there are far more ways to fall in love,
Far more ways to heal bullet wounds
With small butterfly kisses,
One by one.
Like bite sized Quiches
And individually wrapped “hello”s,
The three minutes of sunset and
Every day brings me
More things to fall in love with,
More things that will come to
Eclipse your light.
In the way that the moon will never stare at me back,
I come to realize the futility of wishing for you and me
And I take small steps out into the ever churning ocean
As I release the latch on the cage to let those butterflies and their kisses go.
Maybe one day,
I’ll wake up
And the first thing I’ll think of
Will be the person sleeping next to me,
