Ten

You get that moment of finality
When you turn ten.
Double digits and no going back,
And you’ll only make it out
Until you hit the big one-oh-oh.

The ten reasons I loved you then
Still remain the same.
But now,
There are ten more
Waiting to take their place.

If I told you I was leaving,
Would you beg me to stay?
You are too easy to love
And too easy to let go.
The ten minutes we spend each day
Has me adding tally lines to the prison inside of my brain.
Each time I add a mark,
I’m cut just a little.

Do you remember back when we were ten? Do you remember
The puppy love that
Tears me apart still to this day?
Is there any way to
Replace my memories of you?

Ten
