The 86th Floor

This city never sleeps at night
And stays awake to keep me company instead.
5th Avenue busy and bumbling,
7th street glowing with headlights.
I feel a little less lonely knowing that
I’m not the only one awake.

Still sometimes I wish that you
Would be the one next to me
On the 86th floor of this building.
The wind whips through my hair as I watch the city from above
Like a bird who has lost her wings.
It’s only 11PM and yet
I feel so alone.
Fourty degrees cold
And yet without you here,
I feel just a little colder.

I asked myself looking left,
Maybe if I just kept going East-
I would eventually find my way back to you.
