Contract

When I pledged to be yours
And you pledged to be mine
We took the broken halves of our hearts and put them together
To form a new one.
And when you left you took with you
More than your fair share.
But that’s the way the cookie crumbles,
You left me with less than what I had
Before I met you.
But it all evens out in the end, I suppose
Because I know that
The last one you loved
Took more than her fair share, too.
