Silverfish

You took me by the hand
And I begged you,
“Not here.”
So we switched off
Into the deserted forest
Away from the lights and the fakery,
Away from all of it.

The ruined shed welcomed us in
As the silverfish spit
And cussed us out.
How can I ever forget the first moments of waking up
After dying and being reborn?
That night
We watched
As pools of water devoured us both
And blocked off our ears
Until the only thing left
Was the sound of a heart beating.
Yours?
Mine?
Maybe just that one night
We fell in sync.
