Justice

Last night
I took you to court
In my dream.
I had you tested and tried
And you were found guilty of treason.

And no matter how hard I tried to justify
I could not find reasons to forgive.
And yet when the gavel sent sentence
I could not help but leap up and
Defend you.

The courtroom fell silent
And the only sound to be heard was the thumping of my heart.
Like a final sentence
Like the one of goodbyes,
I had no choice but to repeal and still
You did not repent.

You were given a lifetime of solitary confinement
But somehow
It seems that rather,
I was the one with the harsher punishment-
The punishment of being without you.
