Dis/connect

“I don’t ever
Want to see you again,”
She said.

But the hardest thing about letting go
Is cutting the strings attached
Like worn down thank you notes on post-its
Plastered to dusty windows.
Like balloons that will never learn to fly
We sink to the ground on
Deflated hopes.

“I’ll never miss someone
Like you,”
He said.

But the easiest thing about the way words flow is that
You never really end up saying what you mean.
The facets of words
Like cuts on a diamond
Add to things you never knew you’d feel,
Feelings you never knew you existed.
